G.1 Three-Tier Framework

Tier 1: Manifestations of the Spirit Himself. Visible, audible, or sensory: dove at baptism, tongues of fire, rushing wind, cloud of glory.

Tier 2: Impacts on Recipients. Human responses: tongues, prophecy, falling, trembling, healing, visions.

Tier 3: Lasting Fruit. Character transformation, church growth, missionary expansion, social impact. Essential and non-negotiable.

(b) Regular but not universal: Tongues, prophecy, falling/resting, healing.

(c) Occasional: Jerking, dancing, visions, audible voice.

(d) No scriptural basis: Gold dust, angel feathers, gemstones, holy laughter (extended), spiritual drunkenness, animal noises. Documented without endorsement.

G.4 Six Biblical Activities Not Evidenced in Modern Research

Prescribed language: “this study did not find direct evidence” — not “this did not happen.”

1. Verified xenolalia — actual unlearned foreign languages (Acts 2:6–11).

2. Supernatural craftsmanship — Spirit-given skill (Exod 31:1–5, Bezalel).

3. Military empowerment — supernatural strength (Judg 14:6, 15:14–15).

4. Physical transport — bodily relocation (Acts 8:39–40, Philip).

5. Immediate divine judgement — instant death (Acts 5:1–11).

6. Corporate route-blocking — Spirit preventing travel (Acts 16:6–7).

G.5 Evaluative Standard

The biblical test — “By their fruits you will know them” (Matthew 7:16–20) — is the primary standard. Edwards acknowledged as historical articulator but the framework is biblical. Consistent finding: Tier 1 rare and inaugural; Tier 2 variable; Tier 3 essential and non-negotiable.
